The Strokes – At The Door

The wait is finally over!! After 7 years the Strokes are back with a new studio album. At the Door is their debut single and we had the honor to participate on its music video. We were thrilled when Mike Burakoff and Benjy Brooke invited us to participate on this amazing project. This clip, which is actually almost a short film (5 minutes), was directed by Mike and co-produced by Benjy with an amazing group of artists from such as Ugo Bienvenu, Sike, Agathe Leroux, etc. What an amazing crew! And all in the service of a clip that resonates beautiful memories of retro animation (René Laloux, Moebius, Watership Down, Heavy Metal...). We were in charge of designing and animating the Megastructure section (warrior, overlord), over 1 minute of animation. Inspired on the Heavy Metal movie, the section is a journey of warrior trying to save the universe at any cost. Song: At The Door. Album: The New Abnormal.

BEND REALITY (by Drasik Studio)

Drasik Studio presents Bend Reality, a non-commercial project about a constantly changing world that evolves thanks to the creativity and expertise of those who create it.

It all began with the aim of doing an animation video for us, just to experiment and show how we see our work and life in general. And we finally ended up impersonating the bear from our logo running through a never-ending road of steady improvement.

Using 2D and frame-by-frame animation, our main character goes from darker to brighter scenarios created by four different artists until he reaches his goal, a diamond.

Sub-Surface

This thing came from Brighton tourist tat.

We saw tourists buying personalised crystal engravings of their pets by Brighton Pier. And it got us thinking. This process, called Sub Surface engraving, shines two laser beams at a cube, disrupting the crystal and creating a 3D image built from thousands of dots. Then we started thinking about how we could animate the cubes. The astronaut’s run cycle was created in low poly 3D to react perfectly to the light hitting the interior surfaces. In total, 24 individual cubes were created, with each cube housing one frame of the cycle. We shot the cubes in the studio, using macro camera lenses and different lighting set-ups. We stitched the shots together into the final animation and turned to our friend Howard to create the otherworldly soundscape.

Blame it on the red bees: A true story

The true story about the secret criminal life of a maraschino cherry factory owner.

It all started back in 2010 when beekeepers in Brooklyn noticed something very curious: their bees were returning to their hives with a bright red stomach. But that is just the beginning of story that leads to cherries, drugs and tragedy.

This mini-doc is a part of Hey Umami (heyumami.com.br), a passion project of visual narratives by the folks from content studio Royalpixel (royalpixel.com.br).

plume of light

plume of light

directed & produced by plume.tv

The film Plume of Light is loosely inspired by the experience of a Kundalini awakening. Where energy rises through the body. From the base of the spine to the top of the crown, up to the universe and spirit.

The film used the five elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Spirit) to take the audience on an emotional and spiritual journey from the depth of the earth through an inner journey towards light.

This allowed Plume to experiment with many different elements and looks, and showcase how we could combine strong animation within a world of realism and design. Finding beauty in every element through a inner visual journey.

2019 Gold Loerie for VFX

I worked closely with director Kim Geldenhuys to create the VFX on this film at our studio (Wicked Pixels) in Cape Town. Allot of experimentation when in to creating the opening sequence of the film where we tried to strike a balance of abstract and literal for the journey and formation of the diamond. I was also responsible for the creation of the opening sequence in 3D.

“Chapter One” Video Copilot Live 2019 – Opening Title

"Chapter One" Video Copilot Live 2019 – Opening Title

Chapter One is a opening title sequence I made for the video copilot live tour Paris
The idea was to create a realistic environment with an abstract context
I wanted to symbolize the idea of life through a water creature that spread life randomly
To finally be personified to a natural being

Video Copilot Live will be a night of artist’s showcases and a behind the scenes look at tips from the professionals! From SciFi, UI, to Environment creation, designers from across the country to share tips and meet the community!
