Alef – Main Titles

Aleph is an engrossing detective thriller that blends the classic narrative universe of its genre with cultural elements of Eastern geography.

Designed in eight episodes, the first season appears at first to focus on the efforts to catch a killer committing a series of murders with a mysterious motivation.

While creating a title sequence, the initial idea was to use the hints from the script. For that reason, we have spent a lot of time in the set and photographed as many assets as we can and used them on the main titles different scenes.

We worked together with the art department on the set and collected visual materials and ideas to create an atmosphere which reflects the series original mood.

The visual language of the main titles has been inspired by Istanbul's Islamic and historical architectures. We combined that with the poor, run-down and uncertain face of the city and create a dark, grunge and mysterious atmosphere. Most of the assets we used in 3d has been modelled or 3dscaned from the set props. We got a lot of documents for the police-department set (papers, evidence, homicide props) and re-create them as 3d for production.

There are two different puzzles in the scenario. One has happened a long time ago and the other one is still investigating and they are connected somehow. So our approach for the main titles was to make a sequence by using the traces of the whole script and create a new short-story which is related to series itself.
When the audience watches the title they can see some hints from the episodes they haven't watch yet. By doing that we aimed to create a curiosity for the audience and prepare them for the next episodes.

What You May Find: FITC x Sarofsky

What You May Find: The Future of Innovation
What does the future hold? Can you see it? Things are progressing and changing faster and faster, sometimes, but not always for the better. As we enter the year 2020, we want to explore the future. What we want, what we imagined, and what will be. But all progress comes at a price.

What You May Find: The Future of Technology
We have state of the art technology in our pockets, and access to centuries of information with only a word. Where are the flying cars and jetpacks that we envisioned and were promised? Will our advances eventually plateau, or lead to a singularity.

What You May Find: The Future of Creativity
We live in the future now. For every new design and development, there are serious and incredible consequences. Will you find a new path, a new system, a new set of tools or a new found love for something from the past.

For the 2020 edition of its flagship annual creative event in Toronto, design and technology event producer FITC engaged design-driven production company Sarofsky to create an epic main title piece. With the event’s postponement, both companies forged a new strategy to share their powerful cinematic experience, entitled “What You May Find.” Set to a new rendition of the classic hit “In The Year 2525,” this rich, iconic animation offers a stark vision of “what we may find,” ending with a ray of hope.

Letter, Lotus And Legend

Martial arts have always been a breath of fresh air for western culture. Starting with the first American film adaptations about the samurai, a unified philosophy of perfecting one’s mind and spirit has been accreting additional cultural layers without losing its distinct archaic character. We decided to distill this cluster of meaning into striking choreography familiar from films, enrobing it in eclectic technological shapes. This piece is about how incessant contradiction and conflict within our psyche lead to feelings of dismay; these feelings are then inevitably expressed through violence and struggle, so that a fragile balance may once again be restored.

Minerals – Waiting to Be Found

“The International Mineralogical Association (IMA) currently recognises around five thousand distinct mineral species. Some, such as the major rock-forming silicates and carbonates, are well known and found in abundance the world over. But most are documented based on just a few known occurrences.

It’s unlikely that scientists will stumble across many new finds of singularly abundant minerals on Earth, but numerous rare minerals are probably yet to be discovered.”

A short visual exploration into the world of undiscovered rocks and minerals.
